BEGINNERS: BTSC offers beginner swim lessons for children under the age of 8. Lessons are conducted by club life guards. Contact the front desk for more information and lesson availability.

SWIM TEAM: BTSC is a great place for your kids to engage in a summer swim league. BTSC is a member of the Youngstown Swim League (YSL) that includes eight clubs from the surrounding area. They compete in dual meets each Wednesday during June and July, a medley relay meet once during the season, and a Championship meet at the end of the season. We cap off the season with a banquet to celebrate the season.

Dues: $45 first swimmer, $45 second swimmer, $30 third swimmer, $15 fourth swimmer, Free thereafter

Swimmingly Fee: $18 paid on Swimmingly account

Practices:

  • Generally begin once Boardman schools are out for the summer and end at the end of July with Champs.
  • Ages 8 & Under 11:00-11:45 am
  • Ages 9-12 Mon-Fri 9:45-10:45 am
  • Ages 13 & Up Mon-Fri 8:00-9:30 am

Private Lessons for more technical or stroke instruction are available. These are offered by the swim team coaches. Check the bulletin board for availability and fee.

We also use Remind to communicate with our swimmers and families. You can join with the class code @btscswim.

You must register & sign-up your swimmer(s) using these instructions to participate in the season. Once you register & sign-up your swimmer(s) using the instructions below, they'll automatically populate on the roster and become active for the season! Per the Swimmingly® Child Protection Policy, as a guardian, you will have oversight of your swimmer(s) and can invite other parents/guardians/grandparents that you wish to affiliate with your swimmers in the Swimmingly® Clubhouse!

*There will be an opportunity to try on swimsuits on Sunday, May 5 from 3:00pm-5:00pm at Endurance Aquatics Swim Supply Shop, located inside Body Temple Fitness, 7380 Southern Boulevard. (This is not mandatory). 

If you are unable to attend and would like your swimmer to try on a swimsuit, you can contact Katie Glatzer (330-518-3640) and she will arrange a time for you to come in.

SWIM TEAM COACHING STAFF

Mark Brooks, Head Coach

From Boardman, Ohio, Mark began swimming at Applewood Swim Club at the age of 8. He was a captain on the Boardman High School Swim Team and was an alternate for the 200 and 400 Freestyle Relays at the 2008 State Championship Meet. He then swam for Westminster College, where he was a 6-time Presidents Athletic Conference Champion, held the school record in the 400 Medley Relay, and was a 3x Academic All-American. During this time, he began his first coaching job at Applewood Swim and Tennis Club from 2011-2015. After graduating, Mark spent two years as an assistant coach for Wheeling Jesuit University Men's and Women's Swim programs. He returned to help coach at Westminster College for one season in 2014-2015 before becoming the Head Coach for USA Penguin Swimming from 2015-2019 and assistant coach from 2020-2021 In the fall of 2021, he joined the coaching staff of the Boardman High School Swim Team.

Conner O'Halloran

Conner is no stranger to the BTSC. He spent every summer at the swim club growing up. While in high school, he was on the high school swim team and helped coach BTSC as an assistant coach. Conner competed in college for a year at Eastern Michigan before transferring back to Youngstown State where he ultimately graduated. He now works for the Canfield Fire Department and Poland Fire Department as a firefighter/paramedic. Conner is married to his wife Jessica and has three kids, Zach, Addie, and Nora who are all involved at BTSC.

Ava Velasquez

Ava is a 2021 graduate of Boardman High School. She started swimming when she was 6 years old at Applewood Swim Club. She then swam for Boardman High School, Penguins, and Neptunes throughout her swim career. She helped coach at Salem, South Range, and Columbiana, and was an assistant coach at Piranha Aquatics. Ava is a sophomore at YSU majoring in Communications with a minor in Marketing. Ava is excited for this summer! 

Alexis Mihok

Most people call her Lexxi. She has been a part of the swimming since she was 8 years old. She swam at Neptunes for 9 years. She was also on the Boardman High School swim team all 4 years and was named team captain for 2 of those years. She is graduating this year from Boardman High School and will be furthering her education and swimming career at Lynn University in Florida.  She have also been a lifeguard here at BTSC for 4 years and started teaching private lessons last year one on one with the kids. Being in the pool is her favorite part of the day and she is so excited for this summer!
